1969 AMX History
The 1969 AMX remained practically unchanged from the previous year.
An existing option available was the "Go Package" which came with either the 343 cid engine, or for an additional $311.00 you could opt for the all-mighty 390 cid, 315 bhp. The 1969 AMX "Go Package" came with power disc brakes, better handling components, a heavy-duty radiator, E70 redline tires on wider rims, racing stripes and the "Twin-Grip" rear axle.
Another option for '69 was called the "Big Bad AMX", available mid year and offered new vivid colors including body-color painted bumpers. You could order these bad boys in either blue, orange or green. If ordered with a 4-speed Borg-Warner tranny, a Hurst competition plus shifter was available as an option.
Also if you had around $6,000 bucks and just had to have the ultimate AMX..well, the 1969 AMX Super Sport (SS) was available, but unfortunately only a hand full of these beasts (52 or 53 as some claim) were ever made available to the public. They were intentionally made for drag racing and sent to Hurst for modifications. The muscle power came from the existing 390 cid engine, with a combination of an aluminum Edelbrock cross-ram intake manifold, and a pair of 650 cfm Holley four-barrel carbs on top.
