1967 Chevelle SS History

Not many changes for the 1967 Chevelle SS. Introduction of front disc brakes and superior rubber compound, lower profile F70x14 inch tires are well received by the fans. The rear bumper is slightly redesigned and the rear panel is blacked out. The L35, 396 cid / 325 bhp powerplant is once again the base engine available.

On a sad note, the L34, 396 cid is now rated at 350 bhp for a loss of 10 horse power from last year's version, due to a new rule by GM where a car may not exceed 1 bhp for 10 lbs of curb weight (Corvette models were somehow exempted), and the L78, 396 cid / 375 bhp is dropped from the option list but remains as a dealer-installation only choice, which 612 - SS396 Chevelle's take in.

As far as transmissions go, the introduction of the three-speed turbo Hydra-matic (M-40) was available as an option, as well as the four-speed manual and two-speed powerglide transmissions. The three-speed manual is once more the standard unit.

The 1967 Chevelle SS sees very few changes to the interior. The tachometer (still optional) is relocated to the left side of the steering wheel. New safety conformance brings out an improved energy-absorbing steering column.
