1968 Chevelle SS History
1968 Chevelle SS History
A completely redesigned and well received style is given to the 1968 Chevelle SS. Arched lines extending the whole length of a shorter wheelbase body, showing off a longer hood and a shorter trunk area.
The fenders are trimmed with an attractive "Z" shaped molding that starts half way up the headlight vessel, angles down to the bottom of the fender and across to the front of the wheel arch, then follows across the side of the body all the way to the rear bumper. The body area below this side molding is blacked out, as well as the front grille and rear cove panel.
The SS396 name plates appear both on the front grille and rear cove panel. There is also a foil insert on the front fender marker lights showing the SS 396 name (later in the year it only showed "396"). The optional full-body SS stripe's colors are red, black or white.
The 1968 Chevelle SS is able to go head to head with pretty well any other muscle car out there, thanks to the L35, 396 cid / 325 bhp engine (base unit), and if that's not quite enough, how about the optional L34, rated at 350 bhp or the L78 rated at 375 bhp, all 396's of course.
The interior as suspected is completely redone and it offers more comfort and convenience features. It comes with a bench seat as standard equipment (hard to believe), buckets are optional.
