1963 Corvette History
1963 Corvette History
2nd generation - C2
Extremely well received new body style launched the next generation of Corvettes'. The 1963 Corvette "Sting Ray" was born. Strong demand exceeded production expectations.
1963 was the first year Corvette was offered as a coupe model. It was also the first and last year for the now "collectible" rear split window coupe, which at the time wasn't so popular due to claims of obstructing the rear view, so much so, that in following years, owners were having the rear split sheet metal removed in order to accept a one piece glass from newer models.
Retractable headlights made an appearance. Full independent rear suspension was also introduced, which greatly improved the handling. More powerful engines became available.
Production for the year was 10,549 coupes and 10,919 convertibles.
