1968 Corvette History
3rd generation - C3
Welcome to the C3's. The 1968 Corvette receives a totally redesigned body style. The coupe has removable "T" tops and rear window. The hideaway headlights are now operated by vacuum instead of 12 volts as were its predecessors.
The door handle is now a push button mechanism. The windshield wipers are hidden under the hood when not in use. The "Sting Ray" nameplate on the front fenders are nowhere to be seen.
The L71 435 bhp big block 'Vette was clocked at 142 mph (not too shabby).
Production for the year stands at 9,936 coupes and 18,630 convertibles, for a grand total of 28,566 lucky owners.
